Vulpengaard Keep is located in Southern Yamato betwixt Hyama and New Molson in the Falgorn province. It was the hereditary home of Distreyd Thanadars of the Clergy of Mardük until it fell to the demons in the Cataclysm. The forces of the Akai Tora and the Forgotten later took over the keep in the Second Battle of Vulpengaard Keep and made it their new base of operations in 1017 AE.

HistoryEdit

OriginsEdit

"The only reason why Vulpengaard is a bartizan is that I think the word "bartizan" is pant-wettingly cool. It does, however, lend it a certain aura. I can just see it now: A flash of lightning on a moonless night illuminating the imposing silhouette of the dark bartizan...zen in ze distance, a volf howls, und ze dead rise laughing, und all ze girls, zey say now doot do-do do-do do-do-do-do..."
Distreyd Thanadar I about why Vulpengaard Keep was built as a bartizan

Sometime after the Explosion, Distreyd Thanadar I decided to build a bartizan which would act as his base of power as well as the religious centre of the Clergy of Mardük. The site was chosen on Falgorn, one of the islands of Yamato. The rather modest building and its bartizan were eventually expanded and became known as Vulpengaard Keep.

Some local legends say that the legendary trickster figure Katsutoshi Kobayashi tricked Distreyd Thanadars, who were known as Wolves of Mardük, to give the bartizan the name Vulpengaard which meant "Fox's Garden" while Distreyds would believe it actually meant "Wolf's Garden". According to the Tales of the Fox this is believed to be one of Katsutoshi's crowning moments in his career as a trickster.

Distreyd EraEdit

Main article: First Battle of Vulpengaard Keep

The first battle near Vulpengaard Keep occurred towards the end of the Great War when the Grand Alliance stormed the Keep to capture or kill Distreyd Thanadar XII who was the leader of the armies of Yamato and the Clergy of Mardük. King Kagetsu II, one of the leaders of the Alliance, died in this battle, witnessed firsthand by Steve.

Godslayer EraEdit

Main article: Second Battle of Vulpengaard Keep

The second battle near Vulpengaard Keep occurred in 1017 AE during the Second Great War when the Akai Tora and the Forgotten, aided by the Fellowship of Maar Sul, led a daring assault on the Northern Horde who were guarding the keep. They succeeded in taking over the keep after a fierce battle, and it became the new headquarters for the Akai Tora and the Forgotten.

The Southern Horde tried to reclaim the keep not long after the battle but failed. However, a few months later an unknown force infiltrated the keep and kidnapped Shogun Hiroshi Takamoto, the leader of the Akai Tora, before vanishing. One of the Shogun's trusted officers, Mamoru Uematsu, became Lord Warden of Vulpengaard who would direct the Akai Tora's campaign against demons in the Shogun's absence.
