The Journey to Xibalba was a quest in Libaterra that the heroes of the Grand Alliance took part in at the behest of the goddess Artemicia in 11 AOE. They were ordered to find the fabled Xibalba, sand city of the Sirithai, and bring back the head of the Sirithai leader Qadohi in seven days. If they failed to meet the deadline, their imprisoned comrades Khalid al-Saif and Xerathas d'Zarnagon would drown in sand. The heroes faced many challenges along the way and eventually located the Sirithai lair. However, they did not follow Artemicia's orders but instead convinced the lizardmen to join the Alliance to oppose Artemicia. These actions thus became the prelude to the Battle of Vanna.

Background[]

Emir Khalid al-Saif had appeared in Vanna with the Grand Alliance to challenge his aunt, Sultana Adela al-Saif for the throne of the Sultanate of Karaganda. He accused Adela of defeating the previous Sultana Razia al-Saif by dirty means. If this accusation was to be proven true, Adela would automatically lose her title because the Sarquil valued honourable combat above anything else and could not stand cheaters. Khalid, however, offered Adela a chance to have a proper duel this time around with witnesses present so that she could prove whether she was the strongest warrior in the realm or just hot air.

However, things backfired when the goddess Artemicia appeared and imprisoned Khalid and Xerathas d'Zarnagon into a giant hourglass. She made a deal with the heroes: if they travelled to the lands of the bloodthirsty Sirithai and brought back the head of the Sirithai leader Qadohi in seven days, she would allow Khalid to duel her protege Adela. If the heroes failed to meet the deadline, however, Khalid and Xerathas would drown in sand in the hourglass. The heroes had no choice but to accept the mission because trying to fight the goddess and the entire populace of Vanna would be suicidal.

Aftermath[]

Main article: Battle of Vanna

Ax and her friends managed to convince the Sirithai to join the Grand Alliance by promising them to stop the persecution of any lizardman in the region and save Shakkan from imprisonment if the Sirithai helped free Khalid and Xerathas and defeat the Clergy of Artemicia in exchange. Although the heroes had been ordered to bring back the head of Qadohi, no one had specified that it had to be cut off, so Ax decided to bring Qadohi back to Vanna alive while the lizardmen would secretly follow the heroes underground and wait for the signal to attack in case Artemicia tried to break her promise. Things did escalate as Ax had predicted once the heroes reached the city, and this led to the Battle of Vanna which would decide the fate of the sultanate as a whole.
