Falgorn used to be a southern island on the Yamatian archipelago until the Cataclysm made it connect with the central island Tekaido. Since then this former province of the Yamato Empire has come under control of a duchy ruled by the Southern Horde. The capital of the province is presently Hyama.

History[]

In the early years of the Yamato Empire, the Clergy of Mardük built a bartizan temple on Falgorn, dedicating it to Mardük. This became known as Vulpengaard Keep, the hereditary home of Distreyd Thanadars, high clerics of Mardük. The island also contained Kitsune Mori, a home of magical foxes known as the kitsune, wherein few mortals ever ventured out of superstition.

In 1000 AE as the Unification of Yamato began, Falgorn witnessed major events on its soil. The actions of the wandering bard Seishuu Kazejin made a wildfire spread out uncontrollably, which turned the central portions of the island into a burned out wasteland from which Falgorn has never fully recovered. In the same year the Clergy of Mardük, aided by Chaos Dwarves, razed a hidden temple governed by the Clergy of Hephaestus, slaughtering all the elven servants of Hephaestus there save Schuldich Cedheros who managed to flee abroad with the twin swords Dawn and Dusk. After the Unification of Yamato, Falgorn became one of the Yamato Empire's provinces in earnest, supplying the empire with various goods and ore throughout its campaigns.

Falgorn played a major part in the final years of the Great War when the army of the Grand Alliance besieged Vulpengaard in the First Battle of Vulpengaard Keep and emerged victorious albeit with heavy losses, the most notable of which was the death of Kagetsu II, one of the leaders of the Alliance.

By the time the Cataclysm struck and made continents shift, the magical fluctuations also affected Falgorn. The island was connected with the larger Tekaido and witnessed the invasion of the demons through the Gate of Darkness. The strange magic also affected the unusually magical location of Kitsune Mori, making the entire forest disappear from Falgorn and teleport into Jihao, another province.

Although Falgorn had fallen to the Southern Horde since the Cataclysm, the rival Northern Horde held the area surrounding Vulpengaard Keep for a decade with one of its regiments until the Second Battle of Vulpengaard Keep when the joined forces of the Akai Tora, the Forgotten and the Fellowship of Maar Sul managed to take over the keep. The Southern Horde seized the opportunity and claimed the land left behind by the Northern Horde but failed to take over Vulpengaard Keep which was by then heavily defended by the bulk of the Akai Tora forces.
