Dark Elves are elven outcasts originally led by the elven lord Kamelith in the Third Age and later by Queen Arwen Moros in the Fourth Age. They have adopted the derogatory name dark elf, which originally meant any elf who has strayed from the path, and turned into a name they carry with pride to prove they are superior in their quest to unite elvenkind under one banner. Many Dark Elves are former followers of Mardük. A large group of the elves joined forces with the Crimson Coalition during the Second Great War. After the Catastrophe that ushered in the Fourth Age, Arwen took command of the elves in Kamelith's absence and helped them found the kingdom of Caiarth north of Valencia while accepting elves of all alignments and ethnicities into the Dark Elves as well as some nymphs and demons who have sworn their allegiance to the queen.
